Cosmetics

Perfect Image Cosmetic Surgery was originally created in 2005 as part of First Choice OB/GYN Associates. First Choice, one of the largest OB/GYN practices in El Paso, expanded its services to include cosmetics, based on the requests of its patients.  It immediately became a very successful endeavor, so large that First Choice could no longer accommodate both practices in one office.

As of March 1, 2013, both Perfect Image and First Choice moved from a central location and now offer services at multiple office locations throughout the city of El Paso for the convenience of our patients.

Please check the following website link, http://www.drnovoa.com, for more information about locations, office hours and services offered at each location.

Can you please tell us about laser hair removal treatments. I have heard you an not be out in the sun. True or false? How many treatments are needed?

    • Hello Gabriela. It is true that if you are undergoing laser treatments you should not intentionally be out in the Sun. Laser treatments either directly or indirectly cause cells in your skin which produce Melanin to become stimulated. These cells will then cause your skin to darken and sometimes the darkened areas can become permanent. Always use the highest sun-block that you can find and stay out of the Sun as much as possible. If you are using lasers to remove hair, these treatments are usually separated about every 6 weeks and you will probably need about 6-8 treatments. Once you have completed all your treatments, you will again be able to enjoy the Sun; however, I would wait about 6 weeks from your last treatment before sun-tanning. In general, there is no harm in using artificial tanning products compared to sun-bathing while undergoing laser hair removal or other types of laser treatments.

Are you a bord certified plastic surgeon?

    • Hello Robin,

No, I am not a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. I am a cosmetic OB/GYN. Board Certified Plastic Surgeons are boarded in the subspecialty of medicine called Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. They are not specifically boarded in cosmetic surgery, although they do receive training in cosmetic procedures. A cosmetic surgeon receives initial training in a different subspecialty of medicine rather than Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, such as, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dermatology, General Surgery, etc…. and then receives additional training in cosmetic surgery. So Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons and OB/GYN doctors can be cosmetic surgeons, but neither is specifically trained in each others subspecialty, so a Plastic Surgeon can be a cosmetic surgeon but not an OB/GYN and an OB/GYN can be a cosmetic surgeon but not a Plastic Surgeon, unless that doctor has also fully trained and has gone through a residency in the other subspecialty. So, a doctor can be both an OB/GYN and Plastic Surgeon but only if they have gone through both residencies. They can also be double-boarded, but only if they have received Board-certification through both the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and American Board of Plastic Surgery. However, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery is recognized as a Board specifically designed to certify Board certification for both cosmetic and plastic surgeons in the specialty of Cosmetic Surgery. I am currently not boarded by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, but am considering board certification. I have completed over 800 AWAKE surgical cases, but am required to have completed 1000 cases before I may apply for Board certification by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

      Sincerely,

      Dr. Novoa
